Efficient workflow planning

Flexpress is improving factory efficiency through a redesigned production layout, reduced movement, upgraded machinery, and a major internal reorganisation built around continual improvement.

The Japanese call it Kaizen, which roughly translated means continual improvement. Improvement is the end result, but in the meantime, it often means disruption.

It seems there is always something going on at Flexpress: things are being moved, new machinery is being installed and systems are being changed. The latest project has now started.

Optimising the Factory Layout

Recognising the need to reduce wasted movement by optimising the layout of our factory has been high on our agenda.

Moving printing machines is expensive, so the arrival of our new SRA1-format lithographic printing press, due in June, provides the ideal opportunity to make wider improvements.

The new press will handle sheets up to 900 mm × 640 mm and will improve production efficiency in its own right. At the same time, reorganising the factory will reduce unnecessary movement of both people and goods.

A Major Internal Project

The project includes:

  • Removing a large internal wall
  • Moving every finishing machine to a new location
  • Coordinating six different contractors
  • Managing significant disruption and expense

The work has been planned so that customers should barely notice the disruption.

More Efficient Than Ever

Once complete, the revised layout and new press will help make the entire operation more productive and efficient than ever.
